"Like
the octopus in the sea... I learn to explore for myself!"
Toddlers Community serves children who
walk comfortably . The environment adjusts to the physical needs of the
children, both in the size of the furniture and in the opportunities for motor
development. The toddler community is carefully prepared to help the toddler
achieve independence and reach his or her full potential. The freedom
experienced in this carefully prepared environment gives children the
opportunity to discover and follow their own interests, and to be inspired by
everything they touch, see and feel. Children in this age group have a strong
drive and desire to do what they see adults doing. The sense of pride that
children feel when they learn to take care of themselves and their environment
is something truly beautiful. Hearing a child proclaim, "I did it!"
is one of the best feelings a Montessori guide or parent can experience.
The Montessori classroom for toddlers will be made up primarily of
Practical Life materials and cultural lessons are usually included in the
language portion of the classroom; this would include learning about the
weather, calendar, and basic names of objects in the classroom and in nature.
The hands-on living area includes the materials needed to prepare
and serve a snack, set and clean the table, sweep, care for plants and animals,
wash dishes, do laundry, polish, wash hands, clean windows, flower
arrangements, etc....... The language area includes actual concrete objects, language
nomenclature cards such as body parts, family members, pets, neighborhood,
school, and home components, books that are fiction and poetry, spoken
vocabulary enrichment exercises, and other activities that include art and
music experiences.
We need to make the world accessible
to the child "Montessori" embodied the world in the prepared
environment of the Children's House and allowed freedom for the child's human
tendencies to become operative within this environment. He realized that the
world was color, size, dimension, and shape; it was the sound, the taste, the
touch, the perfume; It was carpeted with grass, trees, and flowers; It was
decorated with insects, butterflies and birds; It was walked by animals, large
and small; it was watered by rain and snow, by rivers and lakes; It was the sun
and the moon, night and day, and the stars. And this world was inhabited by
beings like the child, who had made a life to be lived, as he had to live his
life, from the first moment of his creation on earth."
